If you have a problem with an item, please a little time to look it up before bashing the item. My X2 unlocked, but ever now and then it would lock up or act funky. Even if the cores did pass the stress test sometimes you can still use them, but obviously with some chance they might have glitches especially if stressed. If the cpu that you get(the gamble) is one of the ones because of high demand, then lucky you. The 2 or 3 core Phenom II are produced either because 1 or 2 of the cores did not pass standards (they couldn't take the stress test) or there was a higher demand for 2 or 3 core than the 4 core so they just disable 1 or 2 of the cores and shipped it as such. Overall Review: Just because the board supports unlocking cores, doesn't mean you are guaranteed your cpu will work. If your memory cannot pass memtest, it may run windows, but it will not be extremely stable.wouldn't advise. I had the X2 on the same board but could never get it to run.clarification - it would run but it could not pass memtest. The X6 can seem to run the memory in dual channel mode at 1600. I have the X6 on a MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard.

I have both a Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition (unlockable-see other thoughts) and Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition. This is due to a limitation with the processor from what I have read. See other thoughts.Ĭons: There are some complications getting the dual channel memory mode to work with the 1600(oc) speed. And yes, cpu cores are unlockable with this board.people, you do realize that cpu core unlocking is a gamble. For my purpose of a somewhat low powered(wattage) system it works fine. But those are specs that you can read for yourself. Has 5 sataII ports and 1 ext sataII (on board). Pros: This is a nice board that includes video, sound, and lan. As usual, Newegg shipping was unbeatable. This made things easier as I did not have to buy parts from several sources and the items arrived in the same box and from one vendor. Total cost was around 179.00 which was far less than what HP wanted to do the repair and that did not include shipping, I got all the parts listed above from newegg. I also upgraded the memory from 4GB to 12 GB for an extra $40 dollars. Overall Review: For an extra $69.99 I upgraded the onboard GPU with a MSI R5670 1GB video Card. I was not able to use was the mini wireless card but for $29.99 I got an Asus PCE-N15 wireless N card also from newegg. The only thing missing is the HP logo and the bloat ware which as we all know is not big lost.

I was even able to use the original front panel audio, USB and memory card reader on the case. I was able to use all the OEM connectors without cutting or splicing anything in about 10 minutes. The Mb was a perfect fit on the HP case and I do mean perfect. One of many good things about newegg is the option to search for a replacement simply by knowing a few details such as CPU and memory. After some research I found out that the HP MB is manufactured by Foxconn. My options were to send it to HP for repair for around $400 or buy the MB from a company (Referred by HP) for $183. The OEM MB was listed at $83.00 at HP, however it was out of stock. Pros: My son's HP 6654Y computer MB died exactly one month after the warranty expired.
